South African celebrities have taken to social media to express their sadness and pay tribute to the late and retired Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant, 41, and his daughter Gianna who died in a helicopter crash near Calabasas, California, on Sunday.

“RIP Kobe Bryant, Gianna Bryant and those that perished in the crash! Strength and prayers to your families and loved ones” wrote actress Connie Ferguson on her Instagram.
As soon as Dineo left the crib this morning, I broke down. There’s an actual shift. Completely unexplainable. Marcus Morris said it best: “Superman isn’t supposed to die”. Can’t even get into the unfairness of Gigi losing her life as well. Kobe got to leave everything on the court, at least. She could’ve been greater ? Thank you for your unparalleled work ethic. It served as the best motivation. Rest well,” wrote Solo.

Tshegofatsho Ketshabile, better known as Tshego expressed: “Being a father this slaps a little harder. RIP King Kobe and Princess Gianna.”
Captioning a picture of Kobe and Gianna, Maps Maponyane wrote: “Remind them you love them. Hold on as tight as you can as often as you can. Tomorrow isn’t promised.”

DJ Fresh said that “Life is so fickle, yet we spend so much of it sweating the small stuff, being hateful or dealing with hateful people, and not watering the friendships that bring us the most joy and value.”
According to the New York Times, Kobe Bryant was among the passengers traveling on board the helicopter. Nine people died in the crash, including the pilot, said Alex Villanueva, the Los Angeles County sheriff, during a news conference.

According to the NY Times, the National Transportation Safety Board said it sent a team to California on Sunday evening.
Daryl Osby, the Los Angeles County fire chief, said the crash site was difficult to access and that firefighters had to hike to the area.
