South African actress Florence Masebe remembers the day of 18 August 1999 when she was showered with bullets 40 times outside her home and left for dead!

“There will come a time when I no longer remember what happened to me on this day in 1999. The scars are a beautiful reminder of what did not happen. I did not die. I am here,” wrote Florence Masebe.
Today (18/08/2020) marked 21-years since the award-winning veteran actress survived a shooting that almost ended her life.
“It’s been 21 years. In a few days, my daughter turns 25. She saw me in a pool of my own blood in our driveway on August 18th, 1999. No 4 year old should see that. My victory song is louder every year,” Florence Masebe expressed via her official Instagram page on Tuesday.

Florence Masebe made reference to a song from Wyclef Jean’s 2000 album The Ecleftic: 2 Sides II a Book, he tells the story of Amadou Diallo, a young man from Guinea, who was brutally murdered by New York Police officers on 2/4/1999.
According to various reports, the officers weren’t in uniform at the time. They fired 41 shots, hitting Diallo 19 times when he pulled an object, which was his wallet, killing him.
“In a song for Amadou Diallo, @wyclef asks “Have you ever been shot 41 times?” My answer is Yes, SIR! And I did not die. I still play this song a lot??????,” wrote Florence Masebe.
“I speak about my shooting on this day to remind the losers that wanted me dead that they failed and I’m still here. Still loud. Still me. Take that!”

Florence Masebe was hospitalized for weeks and underwent several operations to have bullets removed from her body.
According to reports (then), Florence Masebe and other former Generations’ actors, including Sello Maake Ncube were allegedly on a hit list of actors.
In 2015 the former Muvhango actress Florence Masebe lost her 18-month-old son after he drowned in a swimming pool at their home in Bramley, Johannesburg.

Reports said (then) that when Joburg’s Emergency Services arrived at the scene they tried to resuscitate the child but he had already died.
