South African actress, Busi Lurayi who played Phumzile on the SABC sitcom, City Ses’la and Tumi in How To Ruin Christmas passed away Sunday, July 10, 2022.

Busi Lurayi’s agency released a statement from her family regarding the actress’s sudden death. The statement reads, “We are deeply saddened to notify you of the passing of our beloved Busisiwe Lurayi.
Busisiwe passed away suddenly and was pronounced dead at her residence on Sunday 10.07.2022 by the medical personnel”.
The statement continues, “The reason for her death is still unknown as we await the results of the autopsy report”. The family asks for privacy and respect as they are mourning the sudden death of their loved one.
“We humbly request that you allow us as the family to come to terms with this tragic news”.
Furthermore, “We thank you for the support that has been given so far and will provide further information as soon as it has been made available”.
The SAFTA award winning actress is survived by her daughter.
Social media is flooded with tributes from celebrities and the public after the news of the sudden death of the actress.
SABC took to twitter and said “The SABC is saddened by the untimely passing of the stage and screen actress Busisiwe Lurayi. She will be remembered for her talent and commitment to the craft. Condolences to the Lurayi family, friends and fans”.
