AT the weekend DJ Tira, real name Mthokozisi Khathi was left with a cut in his face, just below the left eye, after students that might have been drunk at the University of Venda threw him with a bottle while he was performing at the institution in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The DJ who had part of his performance recorded live for his Instagram fans says that he was hit by a bottle. “A sign for early retirement maybe. My safety comes first.”
Weighing in DJ Fresh, says, “Sorry about this morning! Sadly we won’t allow you to do that (early retirement)”.
Fresh advised him to start a blacklist of venues he won’t go back go.
DJ Warras, strongly weighed in, he says, “I hope he was caught by the people in the crowd and got f***ed up”.
SRC President, Tsundzuka also condemned the incident saying that the incident was orchestrated by one presidential hopeful and an SRC cabinet member from the opposition (EFF) at their campus who together tried to sabotage what became a very successful event attended by their students in large numbers.
“The duo sprayed artists with pepper spray and equally threw a bottle at our beloved DJ Tira whilst on stage an act which we dismiss profoundly with the costs it deserves. We wish to humbly apologise to Malume Tira and the entire music industry and further declare once more Univen as the home of all our artists and commit ourselves to ensure a much safer and better reception next time. We promise to deal decisively with all those involved as they are known to us. Univen loves you Malume DJ Tira,” says Tsundzuka.
Sunday World reports that Tira was hit at the University’s All Black Party hosted by SRC president Tsunzukani Hakamela.
He also told the tabloid that he doesn’t know (what happened), it must have been a drunk student who was over-excited.
Speaking to Capricon FM, Tira says he won’t be performing at the Vhembe District until further notice.
The DJ is yet to file a case with the cops.
A performance that appeared to be so beautiful with students enjoying and cheering Malume on, in the video everything went dark as Tira went for the cover.
Other celebrities who felt sympathy for Tira were Babes Wodumo, DJ Clock, Mampintsha and Zakwe, including DJ Bongs to name just a few.
