Media personality and former Metro FM host Dineo Ranaka, and the master of puns on Podcast and Chill and presenter Sol Phenduka are set to join Kaya FM.
In a statement, Kaya959 announced the station will be joined by Metro FM DJ Dineo Ranaka and Podcast and Chill co-host Solomzi ‘Sol’ Phenduka, who both have extensive radio experience.
Details around which slot the pair will take over were not revealed as explained in TshisaLIVE statement. More announcements will be made on July 1.
“Kaya959 is proud to welcome Dineo Ranaka and Sol Phenduka to the station’s growing family. The move is in line with the continuous repositioning the station has embarked on since 2021. Dineo is widely acknowledged for her mastery of the craft of radio,” the statement reads.
Sibongile Mtyali who is Kaya959 Managing director said Dineo’s “radio savvy, dynamic personality and life experience coupled with Sol’s sharp wit and broad knowledge are just the combination Kaya959 needs to make a mark with the Code-Switcher who is on a journey to advance themselves.”
However, neither Dineo or Sol have said anything to the public about their new gig at Kaya FM.
As a co-presenter of the biggest podcast in Africa, Sol says he looks forward to going back to radio and reawakening the dying horse.
“It’s been a while since I’ve been on radio and I am excited and looking forward to I am very grateful for the opportunity,” he tells Drum.
But unfortunately not everyone seesit that way. A few individuals have taken to social media that Sol was bound to drop MacG and his podcast. It was only a matter of time that Sol came out to entertain radio offers, they said.
Always knew @Solphendukaa was a sell out… I warned MacG that he’ll entertain radio offers & soon he’ll
choose between us chillers that saved his broadcasting career & the corporations that want to kill the podcast platform. Stupid choice but congrats to @dineoranaka!🔥👊🏽#SolDOut— GOOD Authority (@lavidaNOTA) June 15, 2022
Although he will be moving to radio, Sol will continue working on Podcast and Chill with MacG.
“I will still be doing the podcast. The two don’t clash at all; one is for a completely different audience on the internet and the other one is terrestrial radio. I’ll remain doing it. As many may know, I have been on radio before and have lots of experience on the medium and I believe there is still enough freedom for my personality to shine. I’ll be myself.”
But unlike on the podcast where he is allowed to be straight-forward. He will remain himself but tone down with the swearing.
