South Africa’s revered fashion icon and designer David Tlale has found himself in a legal showdown. This legal bind is with Koketso Moraba, winner of SABC3’s reality TV show, The Intern, in which Tlale was the judge and potential employer of the candidates, reports Sunday Sun!

According to the publication, the bitter legal battle is over prizes worth more than a half-a-million-rand, including a luxury Mercedes-Benz vehicle.
It’s also reported that according to Koketso Moraba’s legal documents, filed in the South Gauteng High Court, David Tlale got into a verbal and written agreement with David at the end of the show in 2018.
Besides the other benefits of winning (as stated above) that year’s season, Koketso Moraba was to be David Tlale’s assistant designer. But David allegedly failed to deliver on his promises.

The documents seen by the paper read: “The plaintiff was chosen the winner of a TV series titled The Intern with David Tlale and produced by Greyscale Productions Proprietary Limited in association with David Tlale Proprietary Limited.
“The documents suggest Tlale failed to stick to the agreement, including coughing up R757 984. It was the material, express and tacit terms of the aforesaid oral terms of agreement together,” reads the papers.
According to the Sunday paper, the parties concluded such a contract on 15 February 2018, and it shall endure until 28 February 2019.

It is further reported that the competition winning prize shall be presented as per the addendum A of the contract of employment and consists of the following:
- A year as David Tlale’s assistant designer, R200 000 cash prize paid out quarterly in four (4) trunches while being employed by the House of David Tlale.
- A designer studio with equipment (process to commence three months before the end of the tenure as an assistant designer).
- A Mercedes-Benz CLA.
- An amount of R250 000 to be paid toward the setting up of the designer studio, other encompassing prizes will only be handed over once the employment contract is signed.
Sunday Sun reports that the breach of the agreement resulted in Koketso Moraba suffering financial damages.
The publication reports that David Tlale acknowledged some of the promises haven’t been met but denied that nothing had been done at all.

“We built his studio and furnished it, and continue paying rent for him,” David Tlale said. Saying that the only issue was that he hasn’t received the car which David promised he’ll get but COVID-19 happened.
The paper quoted David Tlale as having said: “We’ll still keep that promise. The only thing hindering process is lockdown.”
The tabloid also reports that David Tlale said he does not have anything against Koketso Moraba and will continue working with him.
Koketso Moraba was not available for comment.
