According to SavannaNews: Themba Ndaba of Teddy Bear Pictures claims that he and his team conceived the idea for the ‘King Shaka Zulu’ movie, The Warrior King back in 2012. They had planned to release it five years ago, but lack of funding presented a challenge. By the time they had secured government funding in 2017, Ndaba alleges Bomb Productions already had information about the show.
Ndaba suspects that the script he devised was “stolen” by a colleague, who then went on to present it to Bomb Productions. Tebogo Sithathu, the head of Intellectual Property Justice, said “We are considering litigation in this matter. Yes the story of Shaka has been told for many years, but the script has been conceived by Mr Ndaba.”

The highly anticipated Shaka iLembe historical drama series premiered its first episode on Mzansi Magic channel 161 on Sunday, June 18th at 20:00, Shaka iLembe is an eight-part series that is funded by MultiChoice and produced by Bomb Productions. The new series was set to give black South African filmmakers a chance to tell the story in their own perspective.
“Shaka iLembe represents the best African storytelling,” DStv media sales CEO Fahmeeda Cassim-Surtee said in a press statement. “It was created for a local market, but it is also, most certainly, a global television property.”
“While the series is an entertainment title and a fictional interpretation of historical events, producers Bomb Productions have taken care to ensure that Nguni culture is authentically portrayed and respected,” the statement continued. “Fittingly, Shaka iLembe was filmed in 4k with state-of-the-art visual effects ensuring the best screen treatment for the sweeping dynastic saga that encompasses the Zulu, Elangeni, Hlubi, Mthethwa and Ndwandwe clans.”
The cast includes some of our favourite and talented actors and actresses: Nomzamo Mbatha, Lemogang Tsipa, Senzo Radebe, Thembinkosi Mthembu, Wiseman Mncube, Khabonina Qubeka, Dawn Thandeka King, Hope Mbhele, Mondli Makhoba, Sthandiwe Kgoroge and Ntando Zondi.
