Candice Modiselle recently opened up that she hasn’t yet secured an acting gig for 2023. The world of acting frequently has its share of highs and lows. Even the most gifted actors go through uncertain times and face difficulties when trying to get roles.
In a video shared by YFM on Instagram, Candice provided her view on the matter, highlighting the value of seasons of development, rest, and introspection for an actor’s career because of Candice’s candour in discussing her current predicament, it is clear that actors regardless of their degree of expertise, occasionally experience a lack of job opportunities. She freely admits in the video that she hasn’t had an acting gig for six months since the year began. She makes it clear that this should not be interpreted as a criticism of her craft though.
“Dare I say, as an actress I have worked in six months. I audition religiously, I audition but I haven’t booked a job as an actress the year. I don’t see that as a reflection of my craft,” she said.
Candice accepts the idea of seasons in life and the significance of paying attention to the lessons they send rather than seeing the absence of gigs as a loss.
“I know that things come in seasons. Sometimes it’s my season to grow, it’s my season to rest, it’s my season to cultivate, to play, to explore. Whatever God is saying to me in that season I must be obedient. That’s also the important thing about having a place to call home. When you find yourself in a dry spell, eliminate the noise. We wanna do this ‘groove,’ distract ourselves but God wants to speak to you but you wanna do this ‘groove’ the whole time.”
The actress’s contour encourages fellow actors to accept the highs and lows of their career, realising that times of reflection and relaxation are just as important for personal growth as times of bustling success.
