DSTV and GQ South Africa have announced that Burna Boy will be gracing Mzansi with his presence. This may have come as quite a shock to many South Africans.
As some would recall, the Nigerian musician had said he would never set foot in South Africa. This was following the black-on-black xenophobic attacks of 2019 against Africans from neighbouring countries.

The DSTV Delicious Festival is finally back after a two-year break. The food and music festival is set to be hosted at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit. This year’s DSTV festival will take place over the Heritage Day weekend.
This is considered a celebratory time when South Africans get to finally put their winter coats away. Attendees will be able to show off their unique Mzansi fashion.
Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, known by stage name Burna Boy is an “internationally acclaimed singer, songwriter, and record producer”. The Nigerian musician has been doing extremely well in his career since his rise to fame in 2013.
He has gone on to win numerous awards both in Africa as well as internationally. One of his biggest achievements is a plaque from the UK Academy Music group which Burner received last year.
A Grammy, and a few BET Awards can also be added to the list. The “African Giant” is set to perform at the DSTV Delicious Festival on the 24th of September 2022.
The Grammy and three-time BET award winner will be gracing the main stage. This will mark his return to South Africa for the first time since 2017. In 2019, the musician had taken to Twitter to address the anti-African violence in SA.
Burna Boy had also shared that he had faced xenophobic experiences himself “… at the hands of South Africans”. Although devastated by the senseless violence, he also expressed that he had a dream to unite Africa through his music.
A few years have gone by, and Burna must have decided to let bygones be bygones and SA fans are absolutely loving it!
Other international acts that can be expected at the festival include R&B legend Babyface. The Hip Hop Trio Digable planets and English group the Stero MC’s will also make an appearance. These acts will be appearing alongside South African artists such as DJ Zinhle and Major League DJz.
The Delicious Festival promises attendees good food and vibes under the warm South African sun in Spring. A full line up of performing acts can be accessed on the DSTV Delicious Festival website.
