News anchor and reporter, Thabo Shole-Mashao has reportedly survived an attempted hijack in which he finds himself fortunate.
The broadcaster survived the attack from the robbers on Tuesday, February 21 in Ruimsig, as published on Daily Sun.
Thabo told the publication that the incident occurred near his home at the garage after pouring petrol. It seemed as though the hijackers had apparently been following him for some time when he relives the event.

“The car with the hijackers had been trailing me for some time. I noticed that they were following me, but they kept a safe distance,” he said.
He proceeded to say that he was the target seeing that they parked behind him when he got to the garage. However the hijackers got distracted when they had to move to a petrol port that was a bit far from him. This is after another car came.
“I was waiting for the petrol attendant to come fetch an EFT machine so I can pay. The hijackers also poured petrol, paid and after that, the three men walked out of the car armed and wearing masks,” Shole-Mashao explains,.
The armed men then went in the direction the media personality. Luckily, because of the petrol attendant who panicked and ran, the hijackers changed their direction towards the car that was there.
“There were two people in that car and they stole it. They drove away with their car and the victim’s car,” he said.
Thabo believes that had the police come sooner, the stolen car could’ve been found. But as we all know, SA police are the pits when it comes to emergency situations at times.
“Firstly, the petrol attendant pressed the panic button, and a security company came through to attend the matter. However, it took cops a while to get there. It was over 30 to 40 minutes,” he stated.
Nonetheless, no one was injured and as Shole-Mashao puts it, that’s how he survived the whole ordeal.
We are just glad that no one got hurt though the victim of the incident have their car stolen. Better that than losing their lives. There’s too many people are dying out here.
