MGOSI.co.za can exclusively reveal that cast and crew members of the telenovela were sent an email(s) Thursday stating that they will not be shooting “tomorrow”, Friday 26 June.
“Evening all, Hope this email finds you well. Kindly note that we won’t be shooting tomorrow, Friday 26 June due to one of our crew member(s) has tested positive for COVID,” reads the email from Lithapo’s bosses – leaked to MGOSI.co.za.
Lithapo crew and cast members also received another email from The Public Safety Company stating that they have identified 3 groups of people: “those who would definitely have had contact, those who may have had contact and those who wouldn’t have had much contact.
The email reads as follows: “I’m sure this is an anxious time for you – please know that we’ve been in meeting carefully tracing contacts and working out our shared risk… Those of you we fell should be tested will be contacted by Production and we are planning for the lab staff to come out and take samples from us so we can be tested. You’ll get more detail when Production calls you,” reads the email sent to Lithapo cast members and crew.
The email further encouraged cast and crew members of Lithapo to, “please self-isolate in your homes and take care of yourself. If you start to feel any unusual symptoms though please reach out to us at The Public Safety Company on WhatsApp (number withheld).”
The email from Iain and Mamsie from The Public Safety Company also reads that: “Updates to follow soon and we’ll let you know when we plan to return as soon as we have established when it’s safe to do so.”
Lithapo is about Nolo, a young man from Qwaqwa in search for his father in the city, as he navigates romance and revenge while smashing the patriarchy within toxic masculinity, in the midst of post-Apartheid hashtag protest, and the corrupt world of urban property development gentrification, whilst exploring the complex lives of the ordinary working-class people in Alex, as well as affluent Sandton moguls, all caught in the middle of an inevitable dawning of change.
Catch Lithapo on SABC2 from Monday to Wednesday at 21:30 (CAT).
