Bonang Matheba is a woman of many talents, from presenting on both radio and television, to expanding her empire and now it appears she is a musician too!
The media personality announced that she had once recorded a song with Bongani Fassie 17 years ago, but the song was never to be heard again.
Bongani, who is the son of legendary singer Brenda Fassie. Acknowledged the fact that a song was indeed recorded but that even he did not have it in his possession.
Instead, Fassie had made a claim that his former record label Muthaland Records has the song, a claim which the record quickly denied. This begs the question of where this alleged hit song is.
It appears that for 17 years, Bonang has been asking herself the same question. Matheba took to Twitter to announce the collaboration between herself and Bongani Fassie, tweeting: “…I once recorded an R&B HIT with Bongani Fassie…😂😭 I wonder if he still has it!”.

Many fans were surprised and amused by this news. As the media personality has never been known to do any type of music professionally. One fan even tweeted “Can you sing? R&B is a serious genre”. Others were quite curious and encouraged Bonang to release the hit.
The “hit” that Bonang was referring to was said to have been recorded back in 2005. But was never released for reasons unknown. Back and forth speculation suggests that either Muthaland Records has the track and will not release it. Or that Bongani Fassie will not part with it.
This may be fueled by the drama between Fassie and Muthaland Entertainment owner. Lance Stehr, whom Fassie once accused of introducing him to drugs on his show Finding Bongani Fassie.
Despite it all, the missing song was confirmed a certified hit by the record label but some social media users had doubts. A tweet from @SimthoBiyela read: “Judging by your emoji’s, it wasn’t a great song”, but a very optimistic @mikezondile insisted that Matheba had recorded many hits before that many people had never heard.
The twitter user also added “you sing very well”. The entire revelation seemed quite light-hearted but still left many people wondering about the song. Perhaps Bonang could have been a big R&B star, if only she could locate her hit tune.
