Media personality and television presenter, Ayanda Thabethe is making waves on Twitter after she tweeted on the evening of Thursday, 15th of July 2021. Tweeps were not impressed with her tweet as individuals perceived it as uncalled for and insensitive considering the dire times that South Africans are undergoing at the moment!
“Grateful to be in the privilege opportunity to escape the madness to our holiday home… Figuring out how to get food to my family is what’s weighing heavily on my heart. I’m going to need to do this till things are okay and who knows how long it will take …”

Considering the looting and riots that are happening in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng, a number of individuals regarded her tweet as inappropriate and viewed as a person that is showing off unnecessarily. Tweepsexpected the television presenter to be sensitive towards the fact that there is a cry for “hunger and high unemployment rates” in the country, therefore speaking from a privileged perspective is uncalled for.
Individuals that were against her tweet commented on her statement that came from a “privilege” perspective:
“Ayanda is the reason why I believe that rich people should stay away from social media during these times. We are happy for them but we are sensitive right now, life is excessively unkind to the majority of us. Yo” – @BossladyMsibi tweeted.
@THIZOZO_MOKOENA also tweeted: “When they said beauty without brains, they meant people like you.”

Although a number of individuals called Thabethe out on her tweet, a few thought differently and did not see any harm in her what the media personality said.
“But Ayanda Thabethe is no different to y’all thanking God for being healthy while people are dying during this pandemic. But y’all enjoy being consistently inconsiderate. Hypocrites.” – @Rato commented.
The media personality has since deleted her tweet after the ongoing backlash and comments she received from Tweeps.
