Kabelo Kungwane is certainly no unfamiliar name out on these fashion streets. Not only is he the son of a legendary football player, Isaac “Shakes” Kungwane, but he is also a proud member of a popular creative collective known as The Sartists!

This group which consists of Andile Buka, Kabelo Kungwane, Wanda Lephoto, and Xzavier Zulu was first started in 2012 with the sole goal of retelling and communicating authentic African stories through fashion, style, and photography.
Fast forward to today and The Sartists have achieved and surpassed this goal so much so that they have attracted attention from large international brands over the years.

Just below is the collective’s collaboration with Adidas Originals that they worked on in 2015. The aim of the partnership was to define what it means to be a local Superstar. Therefore, in order to explore this topic in relation to the Adidas Originals brand and the inspirational story of The Sartists, a film titled “It’s Not About Us” was created.

However, for the Sartists their collaboration with such a major international brand like Adidas meant much more than just the superficial aspect. For them, it was about honoring all those helping hands that have inspired their success in their creative journeys.

“This film isn’t about us. It’s about the people who will be inspired by this. People that are going to take away from it that ‘this is possible’, even for them. It tells a collective story – of the aspirations of the youth, of young creatives in South Africa finding their true voice and not surrendering their talent to conform.” – Xzavier Zulu.
Taking inspiration from the words of his Sartist brother together with the hopes of continuing his father’s footballing legacy, Kabelo Kungwane started his own football influenced fashion brand called Kasi Flavour 10. Not only was it a great success locally but it transcended through international borders having graced the global fashion capitals of New York and London.

Like the message and meaning behind The Sartists’ Adidas collaboration, Kabelo’s intention for Kasi Flavour 10 was to showcase and honor all the talent South Africa has to offer. He is truly one that advocates for the African dream no matter the circumstance.
