Jimmy Nevis is a South African alternative pop singer, songwriter, and a SAMA nominee. The musician has partnered with Vuma for their “My Community Connects Campaign”.
In a post Jimmy made in April, he said, “This is a journey where I’ll get to work directly with social innovators and creatives who are looking to take their brand to the next level”.
Vuma is a platform that helps South African entrepreneurs. The platform helps SA talent get noticed in many different fields and industries. The platform also allows anyone to find and book experienced talent for projects.
In the middle of June, the musician took to Instagram in a video saying that Vuma wants to connect South Africans. With mentors in their respective field and he will also be doing workshops later this year for artists, producers, and songwriters.
Recently the musician spoke with Chanel 24, and he revealed that the collaboration was aligned with him. As it was already something he was doing for some time now.
The pop singer told Channel 24 that “for me as a musician, the older I get, the more I go deeper into my roots. And it’s been a beautiful journey”.
The artist mentioned that Vuma approached him with the platform as they were looking for mentors and experienced people. Who can do workshops and help the community.
The artist says he wished that there was a platform like this for when he started out 10 years ago.
Jimmy tells why this campaign is so dear to him is because his family was involved in helping the community. So he wants to share that and pass it on to others.
Jimmy shares with Channel 24 “my parents were involved in the youth before becoming head of the church”. Jimmy says that it’s a natural thing for him being close to people.
The singer says he’s “been fortunate to grow up with the right support structure and to be able to afford to go to good schools. I was afforded opportunities that I think a lot of people don’t have”
Unfortunately most South Africans lack proper education so this platform and partnership will definitely help a lot of artists, creatives and entrepreneurs.
The singer says the campaign is “about access, it’s about education, it’s about upliftment.” Which is great as young people need access and education to take up the space.
In a post Jimmy made, he mentions that he has been able to turn his brand into a business. “From creating his own music, producing it, marketing it, finding the right network and record label” turning his talent into a business.
We hope more up and coming artists, creatives and entrepreneurs will grab this opportunity.
