t’s a big day for South Africa, especially to Mama uNoxolo Grootboom. It’s been an entire 37 years reading IsiXhosa news for the national broadcaster, SABC!
“Ndinithanda nonke eMakhaya…”
“To all viewers and lovers of news, who supported me in this journey of broadcasting & placed me on higher ground, Thank You. I’m normally not short of words but today I am. All the time as you sleep, may you be covered by peace & harmony. I love you all at home,” said Noxolo Grootboom.
Speaking to Metro FM on Tuesday, Noxolo Grootboom admitted that this will be one of her first emotional news bulletins as she bids farewell to the SABC today.
“Whatever the content of the News bulletin will be at 19H00 tonight… The iconic and legendary broadcaster will be the NEWS!!! Thank u Mama for inspiring us, your kids thru all these years!! Siyakuthanda nawe lapho eStudio!!” said Sports Broadcaster, Robert Marawa.
“After 37 years of service #NoxoloGrootboom is retiring. What an absolute legend she is! I’m glad the country is celebrating her immense contribution. She certainly remains a fixture of my childhood; watching IsiXhosa news at 7pm. Enkosi ngogalelo lakho, we are richer for it,” said Siviwe Gwarube – DA Member of Parliament.
“Our broadcast mum sis #NoxoloGrootboom will read her last news bulletin next Tuesday on @officialSABC1. What a legend! The traditional attire in these pics are HER clothes which she borrowed me to wear for key broadcasts. ‘Hayi Chrissy, kufeneka ubemhle kaloku’, she would say,” said fellow broadcaster Chriselda Lewis.
