Lamiez Holworthy-Morule has been sharing her motherhood journey on social media, from the up and downs to the joys of seeing her son grow and learn. She has been encouraging other new moms to embrace their journey, even the messy, imperfect parts, and to not compare themselves to other moms or societal expectations.
The radio DJ took it to her instagram in a series of posts to share with her fans that she has returned to work:
“First week fully back at work and I can’t explain all the emotions I’ve gone through. From the mommy guilt that comes with leaving your little one behind, to the hunger that comes with wanting to go extra harder just for him.
Then there’s your body, having to adapt or learn to push through the crazy hours all over again, and still give every gig your all.
I then look at all the love I’ve received at each and every one and it makes it all a little easier. It reminds me of the genuine love and support that I have, not only at home but at gigs too, and that alone is enough to carry me.”
“And now? Now that I have this newly found purpose, drive and hunger, I cannot wait to go even harder and still balance being a wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend, and all the other hats that I wear. But most importantly, still being able to be myself.”
Ultimately, Lamiez wants to be a role model for her son and show him that women can have successful careers and still be great mothers.
She added that it’s important for new moms to not beat themselves up over every decision and remember to prioritise self-care and not feel guilty for taking time for themselves.
Mothers go through a difficult but rewarding journey as some of them would like to give their best to both career and family. It’s important for society to support them in any way possible while not holding them up to traditional, limiting expectations.
